Step 1

Place 2 paper plates face down on the table.

Step 2

Cut 2 squares of paper. Make sure they are bigger than the coins you are using for the trick.

Step 3

Tape down three sides of each paper square near the edge of your paper plates, creating a pocket. Leave one side of each square unstuck.

Step 4

Tuck your coins into the pockets (paper squares) you have just made on the back of your plates.

Step 5

Turn the plates over, keeping them face down, and get ready for your trick.

Step 6

Gently slide one plate over the other. As you do this, subtly release a coin from the pocket while keeping the plate face down. This ensures the pocket is not on show. Then repeat with the other plate to “double” the coins.

FAQ

What is the secret behind this trick?
The secret is the pockets made from paper squares that are taped to the back of the paper plates. These pockets hide the coins until you are ready to reveal them.
Can I use something other than coins for this trick?
Yes, you can use any small flat objects, like buttons or paper clips, as long as they fit in the pockets you create.
How can I make the trick more dramatic?
You can add a magic word or phrase that you say just before you reveal the "doubled" coins to add to the theatrical effect.
What should I do if someone notices the pockets on the back of the plates?
Practice your movements to keep the back of the plates hidden from view. Use a mirror to practice your angles and make sure the pockets aren't visible.
